When you access this website we collect anonymised data about your visit using Google Analytics to help us improve the website experience.
When you register for the trail event we collect data from you for event administration. By registering for the Houghton Trail Event you are consenting to entrant data being published in our race result pages.
What data do we collect?
The data we collect during registration consists broadly of two parts:
- Entrant data - for number allocation and results publishing: name, gender, club name. The age value is semi-anonymised as an age-category classifier.
- Contact details and marketing fields - used for internal adminstration only: includes address, email, phone number.
Payments by credit card are handled by Stripe.com. Depending on whether you visit via a desktop or mobile browser, the payment form will be seen as either as an embedded iframe dialog within our registration page or as a separate tab.
Either way, the payment dialog (called Stripe Checkout) originates from the Stripe server over HTTPS. Your card details are submitted to their server not ours. After Stripe validates your card details we are given a Stripe token. Your full card number is never revealed to us directly.
We use your email address to confirm registration and we may email you if a query arises relating to published result times after the event. We may also email you with the date/details of subsequent events if you opted in to this. We never disclose your email address to third parties.
We take photographs of participants at or around the start/finish line and publish them after the event for you to download and keep. Photographs are shown on both our website and Facebook event page. The photographers who permit us to reproduce their images retain the copyright for their work.
Securing your data
Your data is kept secure in transit by using an encrypted HTTPS connection during online registration. Our SSL certificate is issued by the Let's Encrypt certificate authority and updated every 90 days.
Registration data is stored privately, securely and can only be accessed by two authorised administrators.
Card specific data is not stored in our database and the database itself is configured to disallow external connections.
We never have and never will pass on or sell your data to third parties.
Where is your data stored?
Your data (including backups) are stored on virtual servers that operate in the UK and Ireland.
